Things to Consider About Interpretive Signage
If you need basic information about interpretive signs, this is a great place to start. There are a few things that you need to consider:
- What do you want to tell people?
- Who are you tellling (your audience)?
- Where will a sign be placed? Is a sign the best choice, or are there other options, like a brochure?
- Indoors? Outdoors?
- How long do you expect the sign to be there? Different types of panels have varying longevity.
- Who is the most knowledgable person that you know who can help with writing, editing, and other materials? Do you have graphics and text already gathered?
- How many signs will be needed?
- Is your project funded?
- Will the sign be placed in an area with a higher than average vandalism risk?
Good quality interpretive signs cost money. The design, images, panel, framing system and shipping are costs that must be addressed.
